Eric Scheie asks the right questions:
Has conservatism changed? Is it the kind of change that “change” produced?
I don’t have to go along with Obama’s form of change, I don’t see any reason why I should have to go along with conservatism’s form of change. If I don’t like left wing Alinskyism, why should I...

A specter is haunting Europe — the specter of Socialism’s slow collapse.
“The Socialists can’t adapt to the loss of their basic electorate, and with globalism, the welfare state can no longer exist in the same way.”
The Europeans, who first foisted the welfare state nonsense on the globe, now see the errors of their ways. Sadly, we here in the States seem hell-bent to not learn...

Huckabee – US out of UN
Huck nails it.
I can’t think of any person or business who would invest 28% of the cost of running an organization, and then listen to members of that organization blast you day after day, year after year. That is exactly what is happening with the United States and its membership in the United Nations....

Her 2nd amendment stance is music to my own ears. I also like her private property stance. She rates a look. Check her out!

Pelosi: Social change = political violence
The speaker has stated something that seems obvious to me.
House Speaker Nancy Pelosi recently invoked the grim specter of political violence, arguing that today’s angry political climate could cause people to cross the line from heated talk to dangerous actions.

Compare and contrast protests
Looking at images of the (pretty weak turnout, eh?) protests in Pittsburgh at the G20 Summit today, I noted at how different the September 12 protest in Washington really was. Today’s brouhaha looked like a watered-down retread of every anarcho hippie scum protest that’s taken place since the 1999 Seattle WTO protests. Same $hit,...

Storm clouds for Dems; I hope GOP is not able to avoid reformation
A blog post illustrates what are shaping up to be bad omens for the Dems in 2010. As is noted:
The political scandals surrounding Illinois Governor Rod Blagojevich and Senator Roland Burris have handicapped the Democrats’ chances of keeping Obama’s old Senate seat. Governors in Colorado and New York appointed two relative unknowns to fill...

And that’s bad, why?
From an editorial in today’s Washington Post, comes an odd-sounding editorial that belies a serious detachment from reality and from the distrust of government that once was a hallmark of serious journalism.
A group of well-meaning professional activists — and, so far, over nearly 60,000 online petitioners — want members of Congress to sign a...

It’s still the economy, stupid
About that recovery, Mr. President:
The Bureau of Labor Statistics found that mass layoff events, where a single employer lays off 50 or more employees, increased 24.7% from July, by far a high for this year. Initial jobless claims also hit a high, giving an indication that the economy is far from recovery.
