My opinion of TF as one of the great writers holds. He penned an OpEd in the NYT that uses Fort Hood to assail (rightly) the Muslim Mein Kampf named “The Narrative”.

The Narrative is the cocktail of half-truths, propaganda and outright lies about America that have taken hold in the Arab-Muslim world since 9/11. Propagated by jihadist Web sites, mosque preachers, Arab intellectuals, satellite news stations and books — and tacitly endorsed by some Arab regimes — this narrative posits that America has declared war on Islam, as part of a grand “American-Crusader-Zionist conspiracy” to keep Muslims down.

In other words, it’s weakly written tripe for the weak-minded.

Broad brush? Perhaps. The Jihadi makes up a statistically small portion of Muslim society, yet the Jihadi cheerleader, love the imagery, is vastly numerous.

The Jihadis mask the fact the Muslims are killing themselves off heinous numbers; we get blamed, and it sticks with the Islamic hive, packed with drones of multitudinous nationalities. This myth is perpetrated and perpetuated by Muslim governments. Like the German Jews, America is too easy a target to resist.

Lastly, this:

“Whenever something like Fort Hood happens you say, ‘This is not Islam.’ I believe that. But you keep telling us what Islam isn’t. You need to tell us what it is and show us how its positive interpretations are being promoted in your schools and mosques. If this is not Islam, then why is it that a million Muslims will pour into the streets to protest Danish cartoons of the Prophet Muhammad, but not one will take to the streets to protest Muslim suicide bombers who blow up other Muslims, real people, created in the image of God? You need to explain that to us — and to yourselves.”

Today’s American military leaders are experiencing, in a smaller dose, what many of their forerunners went through after the Tet Offensive. A remote American outpost in Afghanistan was abandoned after being successfully defended against attacks by Taliban forces. In the wake of the attack, and as part of General McChrystal’s strategy shift, the base has been abandoned and destroyed as priorities shift to more populated areas.

One of the commanders in the Keating fight rejected any suggestion that the battle was a defeat and was frustrated that it could appear that way, especially since he estimated that as many as 100 to 150 attackers were killed in the fight.

The Tet Offensive was a surprise attack coordinated simultaneously across Vietnam by North Vietnamese forces. It was a failure, though, as the general population failed to throw their support behind the North Vietnamese and US & South Vietnamese forces defeating the North Vietnamese in every area of operation. By any measurable means, the offensive was a complete failure. Until Walter Cronkite declared on American television that Vietnam couldn’t be won.

The unnamed US commander in the Keating fight now has his own taste of that bitter medicine that is reporting the opposite of what happened. The enemy forces are defeated — the battle is won. That’s called, simply, a victory. Good job, Soldiers.

As one more bit of proof that the education system of the United States is a dysfunctional piece of liberal crap, how else to explain the fact the far-leftist moron Michael Moore actually got funding, which assumes an interested audience, for his latest movie, titled Capitalism: A Love Story, which, according to Reuters, “launches an all out attack on the capitalist system, arguing that it benefits the rich and condemns millions to poverty.” Hahaha!

Moore’s conclusion is that a market system, capitalism, should be replaced by a political system, democracy? That’s like saying you don’t like your house and want to trade it for a rubber-pants-wearing monkey.

Those who clamour for more detail from David Cameron would do well to look at what Thatcher was saying at this stage in the cycle – that is, in late 1978. Although the direction she intended to take was evident, she was careful not to box herself in with detailed commitments. She knew her Milton Friedman well enough to understand the concept of dispersed costs and concentrated gains. If you promise to disband a particular bureaucracy, you will alienate its employees without winning commensurate thanks from the taxpayers whose burden you would ease.

If the GOP wants to regain strength, it needs to heed some of Bartlett’s advice: stop pandering to birth certificate crazies (birthers, or nirthers, if you will), extremists and creationists – groups who refuse to budge from entrenched positions. Embrace the Constitution and the principles of Individual Liberty, instead. It’s better in the long run, ie past 2010. Because, as Bartlett writes:

Both CBO and OMB are predicting better than 4% real growth in 2011 and 2012. If those numbers are even remotely correct Obama will have it in the bag.
